NAIDOC Week
This week, Linda (Kurnai Elder) conducted the Kurnai Language program focusing on NAIDOC week. Linda brought in heaps of indigenous artifacts and explained to the students what each is used for.
This included emu eggs (source of food), different types of wooden artifacts used as tools, cooking utensils and weapons, possum fur (used to keep warm and as clothing) and a “dillybag” woven from plant fibres used for collecting wild grown foods and herbs. Linda also explained about the didgeridoo, and how it is only male indigenous folk that are permitted to play it.
