Physical Education & Health
At Albert Street (Moe) Primary School we nurture and
encourage children to participate in athletic pursuits of various
kinds. The children are able to participate in specific programs
that enhance their knowledge of a particular sport and develop the
skills required. Physical Education is taught as a specialist
program where the children are taught the fundamental motor skills as
well as other various skills. Health is taught within the
classroom with specific programs for older students such as Drug and
Sex Education.
Fitness is a positive approach to health and to the
development of a more rewarding quality of life. Our fitness
program will encourage children to participate in physical activities
and everyday events.
The key learning areas (KLA's), Health and PE, promotes an
understanding of the importance of personal and community actions in
promoting health and lifelong participation in physical activity, and
of the crucial role that supportive physical and social environments
play in the development of the health of individuals and communities.
This key learning area helps young people learn about
factors, including nutrition, that promote and protect the physical,
social and emotional health of individuals, families and communities,
and the range of health-related services and products available in the
community. They learn to identify the harms associated with particular
situations and behaviours, and how to take action to minimise these
harms. They consider personal and community rights and
responsibilities, and the cultural and social diversity of Australia in
relation to health and safety, so that they are informed in making
decisions about their own and others' lives.
